Vision of the future

Feelings can get overwhelming and make us feel like we are losing control over our own mind. We can’t focus or be productive and our emotions take over and start running our lives. Getting out of this circle can seem impossible at times, but one thing stands, knowing where you want to go in the future is a good reminder to start taking control again and remembering what really mattered to you all along.

Happiness, calm and balance lie within ourselves. Very often we go look for it outside. If I have that car, that relationship, that job, I will feel happy or be fulfilled. Unfortunately, even if we get it, the feeling doesn't last very long and we again look towards things and people, putting our source of happiness outside.

Of course we all love nice things and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. Just remember that these things or having that great person in your life, should add to your already amazing life and not be the cause of it.

Understanding that feelings of calm and happiness can only be created within us, is the first step to creating a happier and more balanced state of mind.

Being able to do things that you like and being kind to yourself is the second step. It is doing things for yourself, loving and forgiving yourself, filling your own cup until it run it over. Only then, we can give selflessness to others and have that deep sense of fulfillment.

Leaning in the future and becoming the person that you have always wanted to be, needs a bit more however. Here is where true purpose and a clear vision come in.

Every day we wake up with a mind that has its own amazing knowledge and experiences we have created in the past. Put all these together in a pot and we have our personality. But, if we only go on what we have learned and experienced in the past, how to go to an unknown future and a person that we would like to become, but we aren't yet?

Having a clear vision of who you would like to be or what kind of change you would like to attribute in the world is a great way to do that. We can visualize it in detail and suddenly or brain will become familiar with the experience. It can recognize certain behaviors and if we repeat it often enough, it will become part of our personality.

The part of our brain where all our past experiences are stocked and where personality is formed has no notion of time. It cannot distinguish past from present and future. This is why, when we think of a strong emotion or event that happened to us in the past in a very intense way, we will feel the same physical effects happening to our body. Our heart starts to beat stronger, our hand palms will get clammy or a tingly feeling will appear in our belly.
This is just your brain signaling these emotions to the rest of your body. It has no idea whether this is happening to you right now or if it has happened in the past.

So, logically if that part of our brain cannot make the difference between past, present and future, we can 'hack' our own brain and put information in there that will help us become exactly that person that we have always wanted to be. Like we said before, having a clear vision of the future and the person you would like to become is key to this.

It can take us some time to figure that out, but remember, it's where your instincts go. That small feeling in your underbelly when it just feels right and makes sense. As the expression says: 'it's a gut feeling'. Why we tend to feel this very brain related decision in our belly is a bit uncertain and scientist are not quite sure why this happens. But one thing is sure, it is a feeling that grounds us and makes us feel like 'coming home'. Learning how to listen to that voice inside can be tricky at times, but it's just a practice. The more we listen to it, the louder the voice will become and guide us exactly where we want to go, ignoring the voices of friends of society, telling us sometimes where we should go or who we should be.

So back to the vision of the future. Once we have it, we can sit with our eyes closed and try to bring it to life in our mind. Our very chatty minds will try to bring us back to the familiar, so the challenge is to sit or lay still and bring your mind back to that picture. Try to make it as clear and detailed as you can and forgive yourself when your mind starts to wonder. You can simply tell it: 'thanks for sharing, now I'm busy doing something else'.

If we repeat this process enough times, our brain will start to recognize the picture and stop resisting it. On top of that, if we visualize it very well and start feeling the emotions that go with that new experience, it will be stored as such and your mind will signal it to the body as part of your personality so it will start acting on it! Cause for the brain it makes sense, this is who you are!

We can take 10 minutes in the morning while we are waking up in the bed or even right before we go to sleep. The time doesn't matter so much, it's the repetition that is key. If you can turn this into a daily habit, you will definitely start to see some changes soon.

Don't blame yourself if you skip a day or you just don't feel like doing it. Our lives get so busy sometimes and that's ok. Important is to go back to it and sometimes push yourself just a little, even if you don't feel like doing it. It's like going to the gym when you don't feel like it, but feeling amazing when you walk out.
Good Luck and let us know if this was helpful or if you need a bit more help. We are here for you and want to get to a better self together!
